Domotics using bluetooth

Introduction
With the rising power of technology, we are able to accomplish things at a much quicker rate.  The project aims at controlling the switching of the home appliances with the help of a mobile phone using the Bluetooth technology. This will not only provide convenience to the common man but will be a boon for the elderly and disabled. It can also be extended to be used to control the home appliances via the remote areas which will not only reduce the energy and time wastage but will also provide security.
The basic idea of our project lies in the controlling of the various home appliances through our mobile phone. The mobile phone will act as a remote control which will control the switching on/off of all the appliances in the home. For this we will develop software which will provide a graphical interface to a common user so that he can easily control the switching of the different appliances. The bluetooth enabled mobile will do the function of sending the signals according to the command given by the user to a bluetooth chipset which will direct these signals to microcontroller and this microcontroller will enable/disable the relays accordingly to switch on/off the device.
Our project aims at data acquisition and based on the data acquired the control of the switching action of any device attached to the circuit. Data is transferred between two Bluetooth enabled devices, one act as the server and other as the client. All the controlling action is done by mobile phone.
The technology used (bluetooth) is wireless and inexpensive and uses an unlicensed radio spectrum with the main disadvantages being the range of operation. Bluetooth has a range of only 10m in closed spaces and 20m in the open thereby restricting the operational area.
The current alternatives available in the market are remotes based on infrared technology which suffer from the major drawbacks of line-of-sight transmission and no security. But this project makes your own mobile phone, your centralized remote and uses inbuilt Bluetooth which overcomes the shortcomings of IR technology This report throws a light on the various aspects which were considered to build this project.
The basic block diagram mainly consisting a transmitter stage & receiver stage.  Mobile phone will acts is transmitter & microcontroller will acts as receiver.  The Data transmission between transmitter & receiver is making through the Bluetooth module.  The status from the relay is transmitted to mobile through Bluetooth module and process of controlling is taking place in mobile phone which is our controller.

PRACTICALITY AND FEASIBILITY
The project designed is very practical in nature because everything can be controlled with the help of just a mobile phone which is widely available nowadays and also proves to be handy. Also the project is feasible because the cost of the project is very less as compared to the expensive Wi-fi home control systems presently available in the market which require an additional cost of internet services.

FUTURE SCOPE
This project can be further developed by integrating it with the internet to monitor your home while sitting in a remote area. By doing this, one can keep an eye on his or her home through an internet connected to the user’s mobile phone or PC or laptop. This will not only improve the security of your home in this modern day world but will also assist in conservation of energy like if you left any home appliance switched on by mistake, then you can check the status of the appliance on the graphical interface made on your mobile and can switch it off using the internet connectivity.
